Etymology Ratzel includes a footnote in which he states Limnodrilus claparedianus is named in honor of [René-Edouard] Claparède [details]Publication date Ratzel's dissertation was typeset and printed by Wilhelm Engelmann and evidently first published in 1868 according to the front page of the work. In early 1869 the same work was published in Zeitschrift für wissenschaftliche Zoologie. 18(4): 563-591 + Plate XLII. This journal was also printed by Wilhelm Engelmann. This double publication of a thesis, typeset once, was normal at the time, and, in absence of evidence to the contrary, we must accept the 1868 date for first publication [details]
