Seasonal variations in egg size and population egg densities are reported for the principal crustacean zooplankton in Lough Neagh. In Daphnia hyalina, these variations appear to be linked to food availability and environmental temperature. Eggs are larger in the spring. The copepods Cyclops abyssorum and Eudiaptomus gracilis show less variation in egg size but also have greater variation in egg size in the early season. Copepod life cycle appears to be more important to egg production periods.
