Abstract:
The Interuniversity Center for Marine Biology (CIBIM) is an integrated research group which associates the marine Biology Laboratories of the Université Libre de Bruxelles and of the Université de Mons-Hainaut.The research carried on consider both the biology of marine benthic organisms and that of their population, including the effects of the later on the environment. The studied organisms are mostly larvae and postmetamorphics of representatives of the phylum Echinodermata. Performed investigations have three major aims: (A) the understanding of the unique biological model developped by the Echinodermata; (B) the establishing of the role and status of their species in benthic ecosystems, and (C) the exploitation for feeding purposes of the echinoderm ressources.
